Wilkie’s Cottage was an existing restaurant reopened by Wendy Scriven and Lauren Walker in Wombat NSW in 2010 which put them on the map as a fresh food destination with a wide range of local and Australian made produce and gift wares and local art.
Then in 2012 they decided to make a move to put them in the middle of things in Young and they opened Wilkie’s Cottage Cafe & Pantry to rave reviews and have been going strong ever since.

Mayfield Mews is a site of local historic significance. Just 1km off the Hume highway, the Mews operates out of the original 150 year old coach house and stables. Henry Lawson lived for 14 years on and off at the adjacent Mayfield House, with his aunt Phoebe Stear, who was married to Richard Stear. The Stears’ at the time owned the General Store next door which currently remains a significant building.
Mayfield Mews has a small café offering light refreshments to serve with their exceptional air roasted coffee blend which rates as the Number 1 coffee in NSW. (whereismycoffee.com.au) Real milk shakes are served in aluminium cups with paper straws, not only nostalgic, but deliciously cold.
