Grove Estate Wines was established in 1989 by the Flanders, Kirkwood and Mullany families with the aim of producing premium cool climate wine grapes.
The Cellar Door, situated 5km from Young on the Murringo Road and is open for tastings and sales daily from 9am – 4.30pm. Please feel free to call into the Cellar Door and experience alltheir wines available and Cellar Door Specials.
Since 1989, over 40 hectares of vines have been planted including the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Zinfandel, Barbera, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Semillon & Nebbiolo just to name a few.
Their winemakers have shone over the years with numerous awards and trophy’s and are no stranger to show success, including “Best Red Wine” at the Sydney International Wine Competition (from over 2,000 entries), Best Medium Bodied Red Wine, Best Wine from Lesser known Variety. In a coup Grove Estate won a highly coveted Gold Medal at the Prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards in London.
Their newest addition to the Grove Estate wine list is a Sparkling Wine. This wine has been made by one of the leading champagne houses in Australia – Cassegrain Wines. As it turns out, the moderate cool climate and red granite soils are perfectly suited to complex wines with bright flavours and clear varietal characters such as our Sparkling wine.
For the 3rd consecutive year Grove Estate has been named as the “Star Cellar Door” for our region by “Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine” Australia’s Best Cellar Doors, with the country’s top wine writers travelling through over 40 prominent wine regions to name their favourite cellar doors, from small to large.
NO PICK YOUR OWN – JUST FRUIT SALES
Willayoung is a family owned and operated property specialising in Tree Ripened Stonefruit. It consists of over 5,500 trees on approximately 8 hectares(20 acres). Purchased in 1988 by Andrew and Helen Ricketts the land was originally the site of Patterson’s Abattoirs which serviced several of Young’s butcheries. The Abattoirs operated until the 1960’s. The land was originally bare ground, apart from a residence, as well as several of the abattoirs’ buildings and yards. These buildings have now disappeared, apart from the slaughterhouse which has been converted to a machinery shed/workshop. After initially operating as a fruit-tree nursery (with a small number of ‘hobby’ fruit trees) there has been a transition to full orchard operation. The final stage of this transition was the establishment of our packing shed in 2002. Fruit picking is delayed until fruit approaches full ripeness, increasing sugar levels, and enhancing flavour. This strategy is applied to all fruit – Apricots, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums and figs, as well as table grapes. Situated near Young, on the South West Slopes of New South Wales, Willayoung Orchard is in the heart of this renowned cherry-growing district. For many years Young was the leading cherry-producing area in the Southern Hemisphere. It is not so well-known that Young’s mix of soils and strong summer conditions makes it an ideal environment for production of stonefruit

Chalkers Crossing commissioned its state-of-the-art winery just north of Young, New South Wales, in March, 2000 – just in time for vintage. The winery has all the modern wine-making equipment necessary to produce the highest possible quality of wine from its grapes. Equipment includes a Vintek pneumatic press; a Bucher crusher / destemmer and must pump; and over 200,000 litres of stainless steel, temperature controlled storage and fermentation tanks. In addition the winery has eight large temperature controlled rooms to provide the winemaker with the ability to control the process at all stages. After a recent upgrade our production capacity has increased from 7,000 to 14,000 cases per year.
Our winemaker is Celine Rousseau. Celine was born in France, studied in Paris and trained in Bordeaux. She gained experience in Bordeaux, Champagne, St Emilion and Languedoc in France, and in the Margaret River and Perth Hills in Western Australia before coming to the Hilltops Region in 2000 for the first Chalkers Crossing vintage.
Celine became an Australian citizen in 2002. Celine’s skills and experience are evident in the quality of our wines and recognised by the awards they have received.

Yandilla Mustard Seed Oil Pty. Ltd is a family company operating in the countryside around Wallendbeen, south of Young, specialising in the production of cold pressed mustard seed oil and all things mustard. They are also internationally recognised as the world’s first cold-pressed, low erucic acid mustard oil industry. Mustard seed oil has a pleasant nutty flavour and is not hot or ‘mustardy’. It is cold pressed from the whole seed, with no heat treatment, and is then filtered through cotton and paper, and bottled. Mustard seed oil retains the characteristic colour, aroma and taste of the oil on the parent seed during processing and the hot elements (or the pungent taste) do not enter the oil during pressing. The oil contains no additives or preservatives and has a low saturated fat content. It is also high in both monounsaturated and omega-3 fats.

The Pastor’s pleasures began in 2008 as the brain child of Kerrie Provan. She wanted to make preserves, jams, pickles and chutneys using as much fruit from the Hilltops region of NSW as she could.
She was not interested in large batch production but small batches that she could monitor and maintain the flavours and quality she was aiming for.
Her cool climate region is already known for its cherries, Young NSW is the largest town in the region. However, the area is also becoming known as a wine grape production area with some of the best Shiraz produced in NSW, bald statement? Just try some.
Anyway: the fruit. Cool climate fruit grows slowly producing fresh ripe fruit flavours with great acid balance. This comes across in the jams she produces; full fruit flavours with a lovely sugar acid balance that makes the palate want to go back for more. These qualities also come through in her chutneys and pickles.
Since making her preserves is not only a small business but also her hobby and passion you as a purchaser can be assured of as high a quality product that love and care can produce.
At the moment most of Kerrie’s preserves are sold at markets, she has the benefit of direct public contact and so instant feedback from her customers. This not only allows her to fine tune her recipes to the public taste but has also brought about her contact with other businesses that after tasting, are happy to stock her products.
What about the name, The Pastor’s Pleasures? A lot of people ask. The name is simply a play on the fact that she lives in an old rectory. From this simple fact you may have realized that Kerrie has a sense of humour, a necessary requirement if you are in business for yourself.
However you can be assured that any purchase you make, either at a market or here online, has been treated with total respect for her ingredients and you the customer.
